About Us

OCN is a nonprofit, digital newsroom with a mission to create a better informed and connected community through independent, public-service journalism that focuses on issues that residents told us matter to them.

Our work is grounded in community listening, which means we are constantly asking folks what kind of local information they need and then we work to fill that need. Using community input, we created nonpartisan voter guides that allow people to ask candidates questions, we created park guides and landmarks guides, we cover city hall meetings where elected officials are making big decisions for the cities they serve and we publish a weekly event guide.

Because we are listening to the people we serve, our audience is constantly growing. As a result, our work has had a huge impact on the community. Here's what some readers have said about us:

“Love, love the digital news of OCN. Never felt more connected to the community. You and your staff do a fantastic job.”
-Fran Mulin, member of Kiwanis

''I love reading the Oviedo Community News. Thank you and the team for keeping us up to date on the events and highlighting the growth of our community. We are excitedly watching all the new developments in our mini city.''
- Abigail Dolbear

We also fill the very important community need of publishing local business advertisements. We know that local business is the backbone of a thriving community, which is why we work hard to help spread the word about the amazing work our local businesses do.
