Join us for a lively photo-presentation from Ron Magill on his favorite bird and the efforts undertaken to protect them in their native habitat. The harpy eagle is a rare apex predator found in tropical forests of Central and South America. One of the largest and most powerful birds of prey in the world, it needs large, undisturbed tracts of forest to survive. Harpy eagles play a vital role in the overall health of the tropical forests and as an “umbrella species,” their protection leads to the protection of countless other lesser known species in one of the most bio diverse ecosystems on earth. In order to protect the ecosystem and this rare bird a partnership was formed with Zoo Miami, the government of Panama and private enterprise to establish the Harpy Eagle Project in the Republic of Panama. Hear more from Ron about how a charismatic bird and grassroots efforts helped establish conservation policy! Register here.
Wind Beneath Our Wings is the Center’s annual celebration benefitting Audubon Center for Birds of Prey conservation programs and our state’s raptors. Though we wish we could gather in person, this year’s event will offer virtual events, raptor trivia, and an online auction.
Join together with friends and family to help raise critical funds to support raptor rehabilitation, conservation education, youth leadership and community science.
Your involvement and donations are needed more than ever to help sustain programs. Support will ensure our ability and success in treating more than 700 injured and orphaned raptors annually, connecting people to nature through education, developing the next generation of conservation leaders, and protecting Bald Eagles in Florida.
